Welcome to Ballinkillen National School

Baile an Chuilinn N.S. - Ballinkillen N.S.-
Nestled near stunning Mount Leinster with sweeping views of the Blackstairs Mountains, Ballinkillen N.S. is a vibrant and forward-thinking rural primary school with a proud heritage. Established in 1810, we are honoured to be Ireland’s oldest school still operating in its original building.
As a Catholic co-educational school under the patronage of the Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin, we warmly welcome families of all faiths and none. Our inclusive ethos and strong sense of community make us a special place to learn and grow.
Our school is home to five mainstream classes, supported by two Special Education Teachers (one shared), a dedicated Additional Needs Assistant, and a school secretary. We currently have 126 children enrolled, each encouraged to thrive in a caring and respectful environment.
At Ballinkillen N.S., we are committed to providing a high-quality, mutually respectful, well-rounded education and hold high expectations for every student—both in learning and in personal development. We believe in the unique potential of each child and support them to grow in confidence, creativity, and character.
With a wide range of enriching activities and strong links to our local community, we aim to make every student’s experience positive, inclusive, and empowering. The active involvement of parents and local residents helps us build a truly connected and supportive school environment.
We invite you to explore our website to get a glimpse of daily life at Ballinkillen N.S.—a place where learning is joyful, individuality is celebrated, and every child is inspired to be his or her very best.
