We host assemblies every Friday where we get the valuable opportunity to come together as a school community. Our assemblies serve as an important way to promote and support our pupils’ wellbeing, relationship building as well as learning. In addition to being an opportunity to promote our school values of care, inclusion and always trying our very best, they also provide opportunities where our pupils can showcase their talents and abilities, and be acknowledged for their efforts and successes.
Ms Doorley, our principal, presents a certificate to each dalta in each class, acknowledging the work of each class. She also uses the opportunity to share some important school news or to talk about some exciting upcoming events. Important whole-school messages are conveyed and plans are set out for the upcoming week. During our themed weeks, such as Maths Week, Engineer’s Week, Friendship Week, Seachtain na Gaeilge, Active Schools Week, our assembly is used to introduce aspects of the particular theme to the pupils. The pupils also really enjoy our assembly shout-outs, where we acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of individual pupils both in and outside of school time.
Our assemblies have helped in improving the general atmosphere in our school and promote great self-confidence in our pupils where everyone is valued and celebrated. We have seen a huge improvement in our pupils and their ability to speak publicly. We finish by singing Happy Birthday to all those celebrating birthdays that week. Our assemblies are an important feature of our school life and they are always thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in attendance.
